Framework 09 · Relational ecology

Everything Affects Everything

The simplest map of relational ecology — and the easiest to forget.

Nothing in you is happening alone. The food you ate, the sleep you didn't get, the conversation that ended without resolution, the season the soil is in — all of it is in the room with you, whether you noticed it or not.

This is not a moral claim. It is a physical one. You are porous. So is everything else. Influence moves in both directions, all the time, and most of it never asks permission first.

The work is not to know every connection. The work is to remember, often enough, that there are connections — and to act, in small ways, as if there are.

Everything is upstream of something.
