Exactly what this site stores in your browser, why, and how to change your mind at any time. This page complements our Privacy Policy.
When you first visit, a banner offers three equal choices: accept optional cookies, reject optional cookies, or manage preferences category by category. Nothing optional is ever switched on before you choose. You can reopen your choices at any time using "Cookie Settings" in the footer of every page, or the button above.
We found no marketing, advertising, or campaign-tracking tool anywhere in this site's code, so a "Marketing" toggle is not shown in Cookie Settings. If that ever changes, this policy and the preference panel will be updated together, before any such tool is added.
This table is generated from a full review of this website's code — nothing on it is guessed. "Provider-controlled or not confirmed" means the exact duration is set by the third party and was not confirmed as part of that review.
| Cookie or storage key | Provider | Purpose | Category | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
vw-consent (localStorage) |
Verdandi Weaver (this website) | Stores your cookie choices — version, timestamp, which categories you accepted or rejected, and how (accept all / reject all / custom) — so we don't ask again every visit. | Essential | Until you clear your browser's site data, or a new consent version resets it |
vw-theme (localStorage) |
Verdandi Weaver (this website) | Remembers whether you picked light or dark display mode. Only written once you accept the Preferences category; removed automatically if you later withdraw it. | Preferences | Until you clear your browser's site data, or withdraw consent |
| YouTube player cookies/identifiers | Google LLC (YouTube) | Set only if you load an embedded video (either by accepting External media, or by loading one video individually). Enables the video player and supports YouTube's own use of the data. | External media | Provider-controlled or not confirmed |
If you accept the Analytics category, this site loads a script from Plausible (plausible.io) to show us anonymised counts of visits and popular pages. Plausible does not use cookies or any other persistent identifier, does not collect personal data, and does not track you across other websites — it is not listed in the table above because it sets no cookie or storage of any kind. Nothing from Plausible loads until you accept this category.
Wherever this site can show an embedded YouTube video, it stays paused behind a placeholder — "External content is paused" — until either you accept the External media category once for the whole site, or press "Load this content" to load just that one video. We already request YouTube's privacy-enhanced youtube-nocookie.com domain once you do, though YouTube's own documentation notes this does not remove the need for consent or disclosure, which is why the placeholder and this category still apply.
This site's two typefaces are loaded from Google's font-serving infrastructure (fonts.googleapis.com / fonts.gstatic.com) on every page view. Google's documentation states this service does not set cookies, so it is not listed in the table above — but the request itself does expose your IP address to Google, before any cookie banner can appear, because the page needs the fonts to render. We are considering self-hosting these fonts to remove this third-party request entirely; until then, we wanted this disclosed plainly rather than left out.
A small floating "Buy me an ice tea" button, provided by Buy Me a Coffee, appears on every page so you can support this work directly. Unlike everything else on this page, it is not gated behind a cookie category — it loads regardless of your choices above, in the same way the Google Fonts request below does. We have not independently confirmed whether Buy Me a Coffee's own script sets any cookie; check their own privacy policy for specifics. Clicking the button takes you to their site, governed by their own policies from that point on.
Some links — for example, book links to Amazon, resource-purchase links on Rethinking Society episode pages, or the GoFundMe and Buy Me a Coffee links on the Support page — simply take you to another website if you click them. Nothing is loaded from those sites until you do, and no cookie from them is ever set on this site. Once you follow such a link, you're on that provider's own site, governed by their own cookie and privacy policies, not this one.
Alongside the choices above, your browser lets you block or delete cookies and site data at any time from its own settings. Doing so may also remove the "remembered" choice this site's own consent banner relies on, meaning it may ask again on your next visit. If a third party (like YouTube) has already set its own cookies before you revoked consent here, deleting those fully may also require clearing them at the browser level, since we cannot reach into another provider's cookies from this website.
If we add a new cookie, storage key, or third-party service, we will add it to the table above and — where it introduces a new category or materially changes what's collected — the consent version will be updated, which re-shows the banner so you can make a fresh choice.
